HAMILTON, Ohio —
Crews have found the body of a missing kayaker, authorities confirmed.
Benjamin Gipson, 29, was kayaking with a friend on the Great Miami River Sunday afternoon when both of their kayaks capsized.
Gipson went under and did not resurface.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources joined Task Force One and Hamilton firefighters on the river Monday.
Search crews used sonar equipment and cadaver dogs to help with their search.
Runyan said Gipson and his friend, Wilbur Strobel, 35, put borrowed kayaks in the river Sunday afternoon.
“The two men were paddling downstream, and when they approached the High-Main bridge, one of them capsized. So, the other one went over to help him, and at that time, he capsized also,” Runyan said.
They were not wearing life jackets, authorities said.
On Monday, authorities confirmed Gipson’s body had been found. He was located near the Hamilton boat dock in the 900 block of Pyramid Hill Blvd., according to authorities.
