INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

The Independence County sheriff says remains found earlier this year are those of a man missing for nearly a year.

On May 3, a piece of human bone was found on Jamestown Loop in a rural part of the county.

Deputies searched the area with cadaver dogs and recovered more remains which were sent to the state crime lab to be identified.

On Thursday, July 5, Sheriff Shawn Stephens said his office received word that the remains were identified as belonging to Dustin Couch.

Couch, according to the sheriff, was reported missing on July 17, 2017.
